Bucknell Men’s Crew welcomes Dan Wolleben as new head coach

We are pleased to announce that Dan Wolleben, a seven year veteran of the Bucknell Women’s rowing program, a Fordham Hall of Fame rower, personal holder of three Dad Vail Regatta Gold Medals, a three time CRCA Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the year, and 2012 National Assistant Coach of the Year, will be taking over the head coach position for the men’s team this fall. In his seven years working with the women’s program, he has amassed gold medals at the Murphy Cup, Dad Vails, ECACs, Patriot Leagues and individual sprint races. Dan will be taking over for Al Monte, who has been the head coach of the men’s team since taking over for Paul Bugenhagen in 2011. Al will be moving on to a prestigious Ivy League position at Dartmouth as the assistant heavyweight coach. We wish Al all the best and are incredibly thankful for his commitment and dedication to the team over the last three years.

In addition to our new head coach we are also pleased to announce the recent hiring of assistant coach Kyle Dowd! Kyle Dowd joins the Bison staff after spending two years as an assistant coach at St. Lawrence University. At St. Lawrence, he worked primarily with the men’s freshmen squad, while also serving as the men’s recruiting coordinator. For the past several summers Kyle coached at Nereid Boat Club, where he guided a number of crews (ranging from Juniors, to U-23, to masters) to victories and medals at the Independence Day, Philadelphia Youth, and Canadian Henley Regattas. From 2008-2012 Kyle rowed at Purdue University, where he was voted the most valuable oarsman in 2012, and helped lead the Varsity Eight to a 3rd place finish at the 2012 San Diego Crew Classic, as well as a grand final appearance at the 2012 Dad Vail Regatta. Previously he rowed for MontclairHigh School, where he was a 2007 state champion and two year captain.

This is a busy time on campus with classes starting and recruiting in full-swing. With the fall racing season just around the corner, we look forward to seeing many of you at the race courses, and will be posting the fall racing schedule as soon as it is finalized.

Sincerely,

The BCA Board of Directors
