Bison Men Face Tough Competition at Knecht Cup

The Bucknell Men competed at the Knecht Cup Regatta hosted by Villanova University on the Cooper River in Camden, NJ this past weekend of April 13-14. The Knecht Cup is the last regular-season regatta that the Bison Men will have competed in before the Dad Vail Regatta on May 10th.

The first event of the weekend was that of the Men’s Novice 4+, which saw the Four composed of stroke Ryan Thompson, Drew Osborne, Cameron Edwards, Bow Zach Franz and Cox Kate Rolfes advance from the opening heat on Saturday morning as well as the semi in the afternoon – granting them a spot in the Grand Final on Sunday. The Bison men faced tough competition and would finish 6th overall.

The Men’s Second Varsity 8+ also comfortably advanced from their semi-final and into the Sunday Grand Final – which saw the Bison 2V made up of Cox Laura Even, Stroke Matt Koenigsberg, Sam Wiley, Tyler Whitehead, Taylor Cotter, Crawford Morris, Tommy Sadik-Khan, Nate Coffin and Bow Doug Burney lead a tight race through the 1000m mark, where they eventually would fade to finish 5th overall.

The Bucknell Third Varsity 8+ composed of Cox Kate Rolfes, Stroke Ryan Thompson, Drew Osborne, David Brundage, Cameron Edwards, Will Fierman, Mike Schwartz, Zach Franz and Bow Ethan Zubkoff competed in the Club 8+ event, in which they advanced to the final and eventually earned a bronze medal, finishing behind the University of Delaware and Villanova University, respectively.

The Bison Varsity 8+ faced the deepest field in recent memory for this regatta, placing second in the opening heat to advance into the semi-final, where they faced very tight racing to place 4th, missing out on a spot in the Grand Final by 0.86s. The next day the Bison Varsity composed of Cox Wade Payson-Denney, Stroke Jackson McCarron, Chris Seery, Ryan Lum, Alex Moore, Connor Corwen, Billy Tyler, Matt Sisto and Paul DeGregorio would finish 3rd in the Petite Final for 9th overall.
