The Bucknell Men were in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Saturday, March 31st competing against rival crews from Rutgers University and The University of Delaware on the Raritan River for the annual meeting of the three programs.
The first race of the day for the Bucknell was the Freshman 8+ event, in which the crew comprised of Cox Laura Even, Stroke Sam Carey, Billy Tyler, Alex Moore, Tyler Whitehead, Tyler Bogaczyk, John Powell, Taber Gifford and Taylor Cotter fended off a strong first 1000m from both Rutgers and Delaware to pull out a 2.5 second victory over Rutgers with the Delaware crew another 10 seconds behind.
Then came time for the Bucknell 2nd Varsity 8+ race, which saw the Bison crew composed of cox Paden Troxell, Stroke Andy McLaughlin, Paul DeGregorio, Tory Sansom, Will Twersky, Charles Zhou, Ethan Zubkoff, David Brundage and Michael Pesin challenging for the lead in the first 1000m until a Rutgers pulled away for a 14.4 second win for the Scarlet Knights – which was overturned after Rutgers was excluded for passing through the wrong arch on the racecourse, granting Bucknell the victory.
The final event of the day was that of the Men’s Varsity 8+ in which the Bison varsity including Cox Wade Payson-Denney, Stroke Ryan Lum, Michael Sena, Connor Corwen, Marc Burian, Matt Sisto, Veton Celaj, Jackson McCarron and Chris Seery fended off early challenges by both Rutgers and Delaware to pull away in the second 1000m to a finish ahead with a final time of 6:19.3, with Rutgers and Delaware 6.2 and 12.7 seconds behind, respectively.
The Bucknell men will now prepare for a much anticipated duel with Drexel University on home water, April 7th.
