Bucknell Opens Season at the 59th Head of the Charles Regatta

With just one entry in the men’s collegiate 8+, only the varsity 8 made the trip up to Boston this past weekend. Junior stroke seat Chris Kirby led the relatively young boat with 6 sophomores, who were eager to see how they would stack up against their collegiate competition. Finishing in 25th place, the varsity eight was close on the heels of their rivals, but they know they still have plenty of work to do. With a young core of guys and having only raced together this one time, they’re optimistic about the development of the crew over the rest of the fall and into the spring.

The alumni 4+ also raced this weekend, with Andrew Viola ’24, Zach Gerhardt ’24, Alex Seel ’20, Mike Pallotta ’18, and coxswain Izzy Mersky ’24. Thanks to some last minute training and some phenomenal steering from Izzy, the crew finished in 7th place and requalified for next year.

Next on the schedule is a scrimmage with Rutgers University on November 2nd in New Jersey.
