ECAC Success!

The team had a very successful performance at the ECAC regatta in Worcester, MA last weekend with the JV8 and V4 finishing first in their petite finals, the V8 bringing home bronze in their event and the freshman 8 bringing home gold! This was a very solid performance for the entire squad given some intense competition and a great weekend for rowers and spectators alike.

Holy Cross Race Report

The V8 started off the day of racing with and exciting match-up against HC. The Bison got out of the blocks clean and at 500 in, our V8 was sitting about 2 seats up. Holy Cross responded well in the second 500 reversing that margin and pushing their bow ahead. Both crews battled hard in the 3rd 500 but by the 500 meter mark it was Holy Cross who pushed out to a 6-7 seat lead over the Bison. Early into the last 500, Bucknell started their press to the line eating into Holy Cross lead with each stroke.

Michigan race report

The racing last weekend against Michigan was tough and exciting across a few dimensions. Certainly the battles between the 1st Varsity crews and the 1st Freshman crews highlighted the racing, but the real battle was versus mother nature. The original schedule was compressed into a furious bout of morning racing with both men's and women's races alternating before the real "bad" weather kicked in.

Knecht Cup report

Bucknell Freshman 8 with Knecht Cup medals

This weekend's racing at the Knecht Cup was done under very fine conditions following a brutal Friday practice session under rain, strong winds, and temps in the 40's. As the regatta dried out Saturday morning the team rolled into the venue ready to race and feeling confident.

San Diego Crew Classic

The San Diego Crew Classic turned out to be a great weekend of growth for the 1st Varsity 8.
The trip started with an early 4am EST departure from campus Friday morning and included stop overs in Harrisburg and Newark airports. We arrived in San Diego at 12pm PST and after arriving at the hotel and eating lunch we headed for the course.

We borrowed a boat from the Cal Bears and after getting it all set for the guys they went out for a good row and 3 trips through the course. Special thanks go to Patti Katin for catering lunch and dinner for the guys!

Team finds success at Ithaca Invite

Bucknell at Ithaca Invite 2011

This weekends racing was full of challenges: the truck broke down on the side of the road-sub freezing racing temps-strong headwinds-tough racing. The end result was all challenges were met full on and we are better prepared to succeed as we move towards the heart of our racing schedule in April.
