Bucknell Alumni compete at Canadian Henley

Several Bucknell alumni and one current rower competed at the Canadian Henley regatta this past week, with some exciting results!

Veton Celaj '12, Michael Sena '12, Taylor Cotter '14, and Andy McLaughlin '12 all competed for the New York Athletic Club. Celaj and Sena competed in the senior heavyweight 8 distance and dash events, placing 3rd overall in the dash. Cotter and McLaughlin competed in the senior lightweight eight dash and distance events, placing 3rd and 4th respectively.

The Bucknell Men competed at their final event of the year on Memorial Day weekend at the ACRA Club National Championship Regatta in Gainesville, Georgia on Lake Lanier – the site of the 1996 Olympic Games.

Bison Men Perform at ECAC Championships

The Bucknell Men competed in their first of two championship regattas this past Friday, May 11th at the ECAC National Championship Regatta held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

Bucknell Men Face Tough Competition Against Williams, Holy Cross

The Bucknell Men had a long weekend of racing this past weekend of April 28th and 29th. The first stop was at Lake Onata in Pittsfield, MA to race ECAC rival Williams College. With a strong west wind, the 2000m course was not rowable, so races were instead run over a distance of just over 1500m. The first race of the day was the Varsity 8+, which saw very close racing in the first 600m, with Williams gaining a ½ Length lead by the half-way point, and holding on to top the Bison Varsity by 2.4 seconds.

Bucknell Bison Sweep Competition at Hobart

The Bucknell Men traveled to Geneva, New York on Saturday, April 21st for their inaugural Duel with the Hobart College Statesmen on Seneca Lake.

The first event of the day was that of the Men’s Varsity 8+, in which the Bison Men took command in the first 300m of the race and didn’t look back, finishing with a time of 6:25.4 almost 9 seconds ahead of Hobart who recorded a finishing time of 6:34.33.

Bison Men Compete at Knecht Cup Regatta

The Bison men traveled to Camden, New Jersey to compete at the Knecht Cup hosted by Villanova University over the weekend on the Cooper River.

Due to some last-minute personnel changes, the Bison men were forced to scratch the Freshman 8+ entry, instead entering two boats in the Men’s 2nd 8+ Event.

Bucknell Men Host Drexel University for Inaugural Duel on Home Water

The Bucknell Men hosted their only home regatta of the spring season on Saturday, April 7th against Philadelphia rowing power Drexel University in Sunbury, Pa on the Susquehanna River.

The first event of the day was that of the Men’s Freshman 8+ which saw the Bison men in the lead for the first 1500 meters of the race over a heavily favored Drexel crew; however they were unable to maintain their lead and could not hold off the defending Murphy Cup champions – finishing 2.33 seconds behind in a very closely contested race.

Bucknell Men solid against Rutgers, Delaware

The Bucknell Men were in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Saturday, March 31st competing against rival crews from Rutgers University and The University of Delaware on the Raritan River for the annual meeting of the three programs.

Bucknell Men's Rowing has strong results at Murphy Cup

The Bucknell Men's Rowing team competed at the 30th Annual Murphy Cup this past weekend held in Camden, NJ. The wind played a significant role in the regatta causing rough conditions and delays. Overall, the team performed well placing into the finals of the V8, Frosh 8 and Frosh 4. The regatta proved to be a good early season test with not only good competition but also many teachable moments on dealing with difficult conditions.

Bucknell opens season at Clemson vs. Marist, Purdue and Rhode Island

The team opened up the 2012 campaign in strong fashion this past Saturday in Clemson, SC against Marist, Purdue and Rhode Island. The Varsity 8+ completed the 2000m course about 6 seconds ahead of Marist, and 8 seconds ahead of Purdue, with Rhode Island trailing. Bucknell got off to a bow deck lead off of the start and slowly pulled away throughout the race winning by open water.
