Bucknell Alumni compete at Canadian Henley

Several Bucknell alumni and one current rower competed at the Canadian Henley regatta this past week, with some exciting results!

Veton Celaj ’12, Michael Sena ’12, Taylor Cotter ’14, and Andy McLaughlin ’12 all competed for the New York Athletic Club. Celaj and Sena competed in the senior heavyweight 8 distance and dash events, placing 3rd overall in the dash. Cotter and McLaughlin competed in the senior lightweight eight dash and distance events, placing 3rd and 4th respectively.

Andrew Neils ’08, competing in the senior men’s quad for Riverside Boat Club, just missed qualifying for the final, coming in 4th place in a fast heat and missing third place by 1.8 seconds. Kyle Lafferty ’10 competed in multiple events for the Craftsbury Sculling Center, bringing home gold in the lightweight men’s four AND the lightweight men’s pair!

Bucknell’s coaching staff was active as well, with head coach Al Monte coaching Vesper boat club’s under 23 eight and senior eight (which included assistant coach Scott Waters), which placed first and third in their events respectively.

All in all, an excellent showing for Bucknell rowers, alumni and coaches, with strong attendance and the medal count to show for it! We now start looking forward to the fall race season and building off the team’s success last spring.
